Become a Merchant

How Does it Work?

Costs

In exchange for services (operation of card program, account management, advertising, marketing, etc.) each merchant pays a flat 6 percent service charge on all net Husky Bucks sales (purchase minus refunds). There are no other “per transaction” fees associated with the program.

Reader Options

In order to accept Husky Bucks payments, you must have a tablet capable of connecting to our Transaction System, which requires an application from our system provider.

Reader and costs:

  • BYOR (Bring Your Own Reader): Annual licensing fee plus an optional, one-time cost for tap reader and adapter
  • Reach out to the One Card Office for current costs

Support

The One Card Office offers technical support to our Husky Bucks merchants Monday – Friday from 8am to 4pm. You can email our help desk at onecardsupport@uconn.edu or call 860-486-3129.

Restrictions

Purchase of alcohol with Husky Bucks are prohibited. Businesses where more than 40% of gross sales are from alcohol are not eligible to participate in the Husky Bucks program.

Miscellaneous

Husky Bucks can be debited for telephone orders by entering the student ID manually into the terminal. There are inherent risks associated with this type of transaction, and, in the case of a dispute, the burden of proof lies with the merchant. To minimize the risk of fraud, we recommend that a copy of the receipt go out with the delivery. The delivery person should visually inspect the Husky One Card and obtain the cardholder’s signature for authorization.

Tips to servers can easily be charged to a cardholder’s Husky Bucks account.
